Denver Marijuana Management Symposium
won’t be held in 2022

March 9, 2022

Dear stakeholder,

In 2014, Denver became the first city in the U.S. with legalized recreational marijuana sales.

For five years – in 2015201620172018 and 2019 — the City was proud to have hosted the Denver Marijuana Management Symposium, which brought together representatives from cities, states and other countries that have legalized cannabis or were considering legalization.

The symposium brought together representatives across the government spectrum to share best practices and polices geared toward the successful implementation of legalized cannabis.

Unfortunately, because of the COVID-19 pandemic, the symposium had to be canceled in 2020 and 2021.

Despite current COVID-19 cases declining and restrictions being lifted, we are disappointed to announce that because of continued uncertainty of the pandemic, Denver will also not hold the Marijuana Management Symposium in 2022.

The safety of our guests is our top priority, and we cannot predict what the future holds as far as new variants, or the level of risk associated with attending a large, in-person gathering later this year.

We are grateful and appreciative to everyone who has reached out to express an interest in attending.

It is our hope to resume the symposium in the fall of 2023, to continue focusing on helping other municipalities learn everything that is needed to successfully regulate cannabis and to provide valuable, in-person networking opportunities for people with similar jobs and policy goals.

Future announcements regarding the symposium will be delivered to subscribers of the Denver Marijuana Management Symposium bulletin (sign up for the bulletin).

If you have suggestions for future subject matter or panelists, or if you have questions or comments, email [email protected].

We look forward to hopefully seeing all of you in 2023 and resuming the annual symposium.

Thank you,

Department of Excise and Licenses – Office of Marijuana Policy
